On Steam, where Scavengers launched in early access last May, concurrent player numbers have sat in the low hundreds for almost all of the past year. Unfortunately, the game never found much traction. Its aim with Scavengers was to make a game inspired by Halo 5's Warzone - a project worked on by various team members - with a "co-opetition" mix of PVPVE at a much grander scale, thanks to SpatialOS. Midwinter, now part of Behaviour Entertainment, has meanwhile been put to work on a fresh project.įounded in December 2016, Midwinter is a small outfit of around 30 people, formed by a cluster of former Halo developers from 343 Industries. It was initially developed by Midwinter Entertainment, a studio from former Halo devs that was acquired by Improbable in September 2019.Įarlier this year, Improbable announced that it was selling Midwinter to Behaviour Interactive for an undisclosed sum, to focus on the metaverse instead. "Whilst we explored many options to reinvigorate server population while the game is in early access, it became clear that it was unsustainable to continue development and live service," the message read. In a post on the title's website, Improbable said it will close Scavengers' servers on December 16, 2022, as it's seen a "decline in the playerbase." Free-to-play multiplayer shooter Scavengers will be shut down at the end of the year.
